Well, it’s a slow but eventful Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton so far.
The Toffees have reached the halfway point at Anfield without conceding a goal against a Liverpool outfit that’s been scoring for fun in recent weeks.
The visitors have tried at every occasion to slow down the game, whether it be through fouls or theatrics.
Just before half time, Sadio Mane, a £30 million signing in 2016, went into the book for brushing the face of Everton midfielder Allan.
There was a melee between both sets of players after Abdoulaye Doucoure fouled Liverpool midfielder Fabinho, resulting in the incident between Mane and his opponent.
Here’s how Jim Beglin saw the incident.
He said live on Optus Sport: “Just watch Mane. The push in the face on Allan who thankfully stayed on his feet but Mane should not be raising his hand.”
Beglin added before the break that it was football against anti-football, referencing to Everton’s negative tactics.
And although the Liverpool supporters are fuming, evident by the widespread boos after Stuart Atwell blew up for half-time, you have to say it’s been effective from the Blues thus far.
Points are more important than performances for an Everton side in genuine danger of being relegated and the home support should expect to see more of the same after the break.
