Newcastle United forward and top goalscorer Callum Wilson was given the captain’s armband ahead of the clash with Norwich City. He netted his 5th goal of the season from the penalty spot.

In true striker’s fashion Wilson didn’t have many chances throughout the game but took his biggest chance. Norwich keeper and former Magpies stopper Tim Krul may have felt he could’ve done more to stop the penalty.

The no.9 has proven he’s fit to wear the armband

Before kick-off, it was announced that Wilson would wear the armband for the Toon Army. What followed was an overwhelmingly positive response from Geordies online.

Following the final whistle, despite a somewhat deflating result for Newcastle. The decision to make Wilson captain was still just as celebrated as it was before a ball was kicked.

Ex-Newcastle defender Warren Barton wants Wilson to keep captaincy

The full-back from Newcastle’s famous ‘Entertainers’ side took to Twitter early this morning to give his thoughts. He arrived on Tyneside in June 1995 from Wimbledon for £4m and served the club for 7 years.

Barton was definitely in agreement with the vast majority of fans with his take on Wilson.

However, club captain Jamaal Lascelles will be available for selection for the fixture against Burnley.

Having said that both Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schär proved they should keep their place at centre-back.
