Roy Keane told ITV Sport (15/11/20 at 11:50 pm) that Tottenham summer signing Matt Doherty ‘should be embarrassed’ with how he defended for the Republic of Ireland last night.
It was another defeat for the Irish, as Wales recorded a 1-0 win in the UEFA Nations League and Tottenham’s right-back played a part in David Brooks scoring for the Welsh.
Following a cross from the right-hand side, Doherty lost his aerial battle with Spurs teammate Gareth Bale and that led to the hosts scoring.
Outspoken TV pundit Keane was critical in the part Doherty played in the goal, as Ireland suffered yet another defeat.
“I am looking at Doherty now and he’s 28 years of age,” said Keane. “Dan James does what he does, he gets beyond people.
“Kieffer Moore gave them a little bit more presence. Bale attacks it well. But you look at Doherty [trying to win the header against Bale at the far post], he spoke after the game against England and how it’s embarrassing, at the moment.
“Well, he should be embarrassed with his defending.”

The issue facing Ireland is that they failed to qualify for the delayed Euro 2020, they cannot stop losing games and they are struggling to score goals.
All of that mixed into one isn’t a good blend and the more senior players, such as Doherty, are being questioned.
Whilst for some going onto the international scene is a relief from their poor club form, it’s the opposite for Doherty, who will be hoping to put things right against Bulgaria on Wednesday.
