Leeds United prospect Joe Gelhardt has been nominated for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month after an impressive month for the U-23s.

The Whites confirmed on their official website that the striker was one of seven players up for the award. Gelhardt scored four goals for Leeds, with the striker also making an appearance for the first team.

The former Wigan Athletic star featured in Leeds’ League Cup win over Fulham as Gelhardt scored a penalty in the shoot-out against the Championship side in a tense affair.

But the teenager’s real highlight of the month came against Liverpool in Premier League 2, as Gelhardt scored two world-class goals against the Reds in a 4-0 win.

As well as being nominated for PL2 Player of the Month, Gelhardt has also been called up to England’s U-21 squad ahead of the international break this week.

Injury to PSV star Noni Madueke saw Gelhardt promoted to the Young Lions squad. England will face off against Slovenia and Armenia, where the Leeds talent will likely play some minutes.
