Tony Cascarino has criticised Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in The Times.

The former Chelsea striker, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, does not believe that Arteta has improved the Switzerland international midfielder.

Cascarino believes that the 28-year-old former Basel star commits too many fouls and has suggested that he should not be picked every week.

The former Republic of Ireland international wrote in The Times: “We heard so much about how Arteta had revitalised Xhaka after the midfielder’s falling-out with fans but the only thing he does better nowadays is not shoot wastefully from 40 yards.

“He does little more than get the ball off the back four and make a simple pass, and commit lots of fouls. He seems incapable of making a challenge without conceding a free kick. Yet Arteta continues to pick him.”

Granit Xhaka Stats

According to WhoScored, Xhaka has made seven starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League and has made three appearances in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.

On average per game in the Premier League this season, the 28-year-old has a pass accuracy of 89.1%, has won 0.8 header, made 1.1 tackle and one interception, committed one foul, made 1.8 clearances, and has been dispossessed 0.9 time, according to WhoScored.

Arsenal need more creativity

While Xhaka should do better, like the rest of his teammates, the main problem for Arsenal at the moment is lack of creativity.

With Mesut Ozil not in the squad, the Gunners are lacking a creative midfielder who will provide killer passes and create chances for striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
