Tony Cascarino has warned Arsenal that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just might be turning into another Mesut Ozil situation at the Emirates Stadium.
The 31-year-old striker had one of his worst games for the Gunners on Saturday during a 3-0 defeat by Liverpool in North London.
Thing is, it wasn’t all that surprising given that Aubameyang – who only has 14 goals this season – has been blowing hot and cold ever since he signed a new £350,000-a-week deal back in September.
Those figures made him Arsenal’s joint-highest paid player alongside Ozil, who left the Emirates Stadium club in January after having not made a single appearance in 10 months.
The former Germany international signed his bumper contract in January of 2018 and went on to do very little for the club between then and his departure this year.
And Cascarino has told talkSPORT that he can see Aubameyang’s motivation declining in the same way as the Fenerbahce playmaker.
He said: “He’s one of those players where I look at him and think ‘Your numbers, are they an illusion?’ Because that is the only argument. He reminds me of a second Ozil, where it’s going. His numbers tell you he’s a great striker and gets lots of goals but to me I just don’t see a team player there. I just don’t.”
