Jermain Defoe has encouraged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur if his ambition is collective glory instead of individual acclaim.
Kane’s long-term future at Spurs is once again a talking point after the 27-year-old striker gave an interview to The Daily Mail this past weekend.
In it, the Tottenham marksman admitted that he wasn’t thinking about his future and wouldn’t decide until after Euro 2020 this summer.
Kane turns 28 in July and this summer may be his last chance to secure a big move away from the Lilywhites, where he began his career.
Despite being one of the world’s finest goalscorers over the past six years, Kane is yet to win a trophy at the club and even if Jose Mourinho’s side beat Manchester City in next month’s League Cup final, it might not be a prestigious enough as a competition to make him want to spend the prime of his career in North London.
The club will have great goalscorer after Kane because it had some great goalscorer before him.
And one of them, Defoe, has suggested that the striker should seriously consider quitting Mourinho’s side for the sake of honours in the coming months.
He told talkSPORT following Kane’s interview: “If Harry Kane wants that and wants to win trophies then it looks like he has to go. I don’t think it will be easy for him to leave and he might be looking at it and want to finish off being the highest goalscorer in the club’s history and see where that takes him.
“He can hopefully win a few trophies, but if he’s really craving medals then he really has to go.”
