Chris Sutton has admitted in his Daily Record column that he finds Celtic attacker Ryan Christie to be ‘frustrating’.
The Scotland international started Thursday’s 3-1 defeat by AC Milan on the bench but replaced Leigh Griffiths at half-time.
And it was a lively, industrious 45-minute showing from the Celtic star, whose final ball and decision making often let him down.
Although Hoops legend Sutton conceded that the hosts’ tempo increased when the 25-year-old came on, he perhaps felt that he tried a little too hard to ‘make it happen’.
Sutton wrote in The Record: “Ryan Christie has great energy. Celtic play with added tempo when he’s in the role. However, sometimes he frustrates you as it can be rushed.
“Credit to him for trying to make it happen, but he pushes it.”
This was Christie’s first taste of competitive football since ending his period of self-isolation this week.
And therefore maybe it’s fair that he wasn’t at his sharpest in possession, but he certainly found himself involved in a lot of what Celtic created and maybe, just maybe, manager Neil Lennon should have used him from the very start.
