Kris Boyd questioned Aston Villa’s transfer move for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix and shared how he ‘prefers a move to Arsenal’.

The former Scotland international added that he can see Felix, who enjoyed a strong World Cup despite Portugal’s poor showing, suiting Mikel Arteta’s style of play.

From playing Champions League football to dropping out of Europe altogether, Unai Emery’s Villa would have to do something special to lure Felix towards their direction, but they are certainly pushing as hard as they can.

From the standpoint of going to Arsenal compared to Villa, where the latter is top of the Premier League table and in Europe, then the Felix would head to London.

But money talks in football and those in the Midlands have pulled off masterstroke transfers before.

Could Felix be one of them? Well, Boyd highlighted the Philippe Coutinho transfer as a warning, as he told Sky Sports News.

“For whatever reason, it’s not worked out for Joao Felix at Atletico Madrid, whether it’s the way Diego Simeone plays,” said Boyd.

“I think the whole Aston Villa thing. Coutinho went there. Maybe down the line, you could add pieces of quality like Felix. But, at this moment in time, not for me.

“It’s interesting that he prefers a move to Arsenal. You see him in an Arsenal team. He’s that sort of player.

“We speak about the Portuguese team underachieving at the World Cup. But he has come out with a lot of plaudits, I think. He did well. And he is only 23.”

FELIX CAPTURE WOULD BE A MASSIVE STATEMENT FROM VILLA

Unai Emery was brought into Villa Park to get the club back into Europe, a signing like Felix certainly does that and if he’s donning the Claret and Blue colours in January, then it would be a massive statement of intent.

But even the most ardent of Villa fans would admit that it won’t happen.

Although, it’s still a great sign that the Midlands outfit are pushing the right buttons, in terms of ambition in the transfer market.
