Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Mikkel Damsgaard has caught the eye of former Spurs hero Christian Eriksen after his fine start to the Serie A season, as reported by TV2.

While the Sampdoria starlet has a long way to go before he can match the achievements of a 2019 Champions League finalist, Damsgaard could be the most exciting young attacker to emerge from Denmark since Eriksen was strutting his stuff in the red and white of Ajax.

According to Tuttosport, Tottenham are keeping tabs on a jet-heeled winger who has taken Italian football by storm since joining Sampdoria in a £5 million deal from Nordsjaelland in September.

Damsgaard produced his third assist in 15 matches during a 2-1 triumph over Inter Milan last week, justifying those comparisons with the legendary Michael Laudrup.

Eriksen certainly liked what he saw from a youngster who will soon be playing alongside him at international level.

“We talked together after the match,” Damsgaard said after being pictured in conversation with Eriksen. “He praised me for the situation around my assist.

“He is a really nice person and really sweet to talk to. It was just nice that he wanted to talk to me after the match.

“I was happy to get an assist. That was delicious. And it was probably not a completely ordinary assist.”

Extra-ordinary it most certainly was.

Damsgaard skipped past two Inter defenders, including the highly-rated Alessandro Bastoni, before setting up Keita Balde Diao’s second-half winner; the sort of match-changing moment Eriksen has struggled to produce since swapping Spurs for Serie A 12 months ago.
