Speaking on BT Sport’s YouTube channel, Aaron Ramsdale has been discussing some of the characters in the Arsenal dressing room and Matt Turner.
Turner arrived at Arsenal as Ramsdale’s competitor this summer, so you’d imagine that there’d be a bit of rivalry between the pair and something of a prickly relationship.
Indeed, Turner is there to take Ramsdale’s spot, but despite this interesting dynamic Ramsdale seemingly loves having the American in the squad, claiming that his positive attitude always helps lift him in training on days where he may be feeling a bit tired.
Turner the optimist
Ramsdale spoke about how Turner’s attitude helps him in training.
“We’ve got another lad Matt Turner from America, he’s like Tigger, he’s a classic American almost. He wants to do everything and he wants to say yes to everything. It’s great because there are days where you’re a bit tired, but when you have him who is new to the club he picks you up,” Ramsdale said.
Perfect backup goalkeeper
Turner may not be the most important player at Arsenal, but he plays his role to perfection by the sounds of things.
He’s not only a competitive option that keeps Ramsdale on his toes in that regard, he brings a good energy to the dressing room, and that’s so important.
The last thing you want is to have any player sulking about being on the bench every week, and while Turner may prefer to play more, the American seemingly isn’t letting his mood be affected by the fact that he’s not a first-team player.
Turner is more than playing his part as a member of this squad, and you really can’t knock him for his attitue and contributions behind the scenes.
