Steven Davis re-signed for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers this summer.

Steven Davis must be relishing his first full season back at Rangers.

The Gers brought the Northern Ireland international back to Ibrox on a permanent basis earlier this summer, having signed him on loan from Southampton in January.

Davis previously spent four years at Rangers and won eight trophies during a four-year stint in Glasgow until 2012.

The 34-year-old had a rocky first month or so after re-signing in January, but Stuart McCall has told The Scottish Sun that he hopes the midfield star can ‘hit the ground running’ this time around, while claiming that he can be a ‘figurehead’ for younger players in the Blues’ battle to stop Celtic next year.

He told The Scottish Sun: “The pressure to perform and get results is huge, especially next season. This is where the likes of Steven Davis step in. With the authority he has, he can be a figurehead for the club.

“Rangers’ midfield was superb towards the end of the season and Steven was vital. He was dictating games and he has the strong temperament that Rangers need.

“He oozes class and hopefully with a good pre-season he can hit the ground running.”

McCall, who had a short spell in charge of Rangers in 2015, is spot-on. This isn’t Davis’s first rodeo. He’s played in successful Gers teams that were better than Celtic and he knows what it takes to win major trophies.

The veteran is a wonderful figure to have both on the field and in the dressing room, a sage of sorts, and his experience can undoubtedly help Gerrard topple Neil Lennon’s Bhoys.
