According to TuttoMercatoWeb, West Ham United have offered Dejan Lovren a return to the Premier League.
The Croatian centre-half is currently playing for Zenit St Petersburg, but amid the current climate in Russia, he’s considering tearing up his current contract.
As you can imagine, the former World Cup finalist isn’t short of potential suitors, and one team that are interested is West Ham United.
Interestingly, one of the Hammers’ former managers is a fan of Lovren – Slaven Bilic has previously labelled him as a ‘very good player’ despite making a serious mistake against the Hammers back in 2017 that saw him subbed off after just half an hour.
What’s been said?
Bilic jumped to Lovren’s defence back in 2017, showering him with praise.
“I’m very, very disappointed with the treatment he has received. He’s a very good player. He’s more than a centre-back. He never hides on the pitch. He’s always there.”
“A lot of mistakes, sometimes he’s making up for somebody else’s mistakes. It’s not easy to play centre-back at Liverpool because of where they stand.”

Bilic called Lovren a ‘very good player’ and he’s absolutely right.
He may not be in his prime, but he’s a wise old head that would absolutely suit David Moyes’ team right now.
Moyes’ defenders don’t need to be these mobile, modern ball-players, they need to be savvy, smart and good in the air, and that’s exactly what Lovren is.
This would be a clever signing from the Hammers.
