Neil Warnock has urged Newcastle United target, Jesse Lingard, to leave Manchester United, as he told talkSPORT.

The former promotion-winning manager thinks Lingard isn’t going to be ‘anywhere near the top of the list’ at Old Trafford, and therefore, needs to look for a new home.

Last January, after being in the wilderness, Lingard opted to swap Man United for West Ham and it’s a loan move that worked an absolute treat.

Now, the Guardian are reporting that Newcastle are pushing to sign the 29-year-old before the January transfer window slams shut.

It would be some statement of intent if Eddie Howe managed to secure the talents of the goalscoring midfielder.

And Warnock explained why he needs to leave his current club and what he likes about the player.

“They (Man United) have never really given him a chance, have they?” said Warnock. “He had such a great time at West Ham.

“You would think ‘give him a chance’. The problem at Manchester United is that they have got so many big names. How do you cope with that dressing room? With your Ronaldo and Pogba’s and all things like that.

“Lingard won’t be anywhere near the top of that list, so he would be an easy one to leave out. I think he showed at West Ham that when he has got that desire, he is lovely to watch.

“I think, for his own good, he needs to go because he will never be one of the big names at Man United.”

Lingard helped West Ham secure a top-six finish after spending half a season at the club.

Newcastle will be hoping he could have the same impact at St James’ Park, if they can lure his talents to their direction.

Before Lingard moved to the London Stadium, he was nowhere near the England set-up.

But, less than six months in Claret and Blue colours saw him earn a recall and narrowly miss out on the cut for Euro 2020.

Those 2022 World Cup places are up for grabs and Lingard isn’t going to battle it out for those limited spaces by warming Man United’s bench.
