Jose Mourinho has admitted to Football London that Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura needs a rest.

Moura had started six games in a row prior to Tottenham’s game against Fulham, when he was replaced by Dele Alli in their starting line-up.

Moura was still used as an impact sub, as Spurs looked to protect their 1-0 win.

And Mourinho admits that the Brazilian is currently needing of a break from action.

“The previous two matches it was Lucas that was starting and he needs a rest,” Mourinho said.

“We could feel him coming in the last 20 minutes could give elevation to the team.

“The squad is working really well, it is a normal situation to give players time, we had guys on the bench, we have a good squad and I have to use it because it is very hard.”

Moura actually made a good impact after coming on for Tottenham last night.

The £23 million man (BBC Sport) came on when Spurs were struggling in the contest, and Fulham were pushing for an equaliser.

But when Moura was introduced, alongside Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela, Tottenham looked far fresher and began to see the game out more comfortably.

Tottenham’s win has boosted their top four chances, with Mourinho’s side now just five points off the Champions League spots and possessing a game in hand.
