Roy Keane has stated that Newcastle United transfer target, Timo Wener, misses ‘far too many chances’ for Chelsea, as he told ITV Sport.
The former midfielder added that Werner, who has struggled since his big-money move to Chelsea, also fails to capitalise on ‘simple chances’.
After scoring goals galore for RB Leipzig, Werner has only managed to find the back of the net on nine occasions from his 51 Premier League games.
It has raised questions about his Chelsea future, with suggestions that the London club would be willing to sell him for £33 million and Newcastle being keen.
Nonetheless, someone like Keane certainly doesn’t have sympathy for the player and thinks his lack of ruthless nature in front of goal is what separates him from the best.
“He does miss far too many chances,” said Keane. “Simple chances. To be up there with the really best strikers in the world, he is obviously not at that level. But he does miss so many chances.
After Ian Wright told Keane that Wener once hit both posts and the crossbar in one game: “Well, what do you get for that? You get nothing for that. Would you (Ian Wright) be happy with that? Hitting two posts?”

Given that Newcastle will be expected to splash the cash this summer, it’s understandable that so many players are being touted to sign for the club.
For the Toon Army faithful, for once, it’s something positive to look forward to rather than another summer of paint-dry action where the ambition from the top is non-existent.
A player like Werner is perhaps a player that fans would be divided on because of his struggles at Stamford Bridge.
But, whilst he struggles to find the back of the net on a regular basis, as he has proved during these past few weeks, his all-round performances have still been strong for Chelsea.
