Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Isaac Hayden has been discussing potential signings at Newcastle United.
The Magpies are now the richest football club on the planet and, heading into the January transfer window, they’ve been linked with all sorts of audacious moves.
We can’t say for sure who Newcastle will sign, but they’ve been linked with everyone from Ben Mee to Eden Hazard.
However, Hayden has admitted some players simply won’t want to sign for Newcastle right now.
What’s Hayden said?
Hayden gave his view on the transfer speculation surrounding Newcastle, claiming certain players simply won’t want to join.
“Some names get touted and it makes me laugh,” Hayden said.
“Haaland and Mbappe?” the host joked.
“It’s not even players like that, players, for example, they go ‘oh that player will sign’ but he might not want to sign,” Hayden replied. “He might have AC Milan or someone else involved and then you sit there and think which one would you choose?
“You can chuck as much money at it as you want, some players are mercenaries, you’re going to get players who just want a bit of money, I’m not naïve to that but, for these high-level players, wherever you go you’re going to be paid well.
“With all due respect, when you say they’ll be offered 30 grand a week more, they’re already on stupid money, so they want to win things or to be involved in a project. So it’s important to go for these players rather than the ones who just want the money.”

The gap is closing
It’s going to be tough for Newcastle to land some of the players being touted in this window.
It’s not as easy as it was when Manchester City and Chelsea were taken over. The majority of Premier League clubs are now able to offer wages in excess of £100,000 a week to their star players, and that’s more money than most peoplw would be able to spend in a lifetime.
Newcastle may be the richest club in the world, but that doesn’t make them the most appealing right now.
