Neil Warnock has suggested that Jesse Marsch might ‘not fancy’ Kalvin Phillips after he didn’t start him during Leeds United’s 3-0 at Watford on Saturday, as he told Sky Sports News (09/04/22 at 2:50 pm).

When the team sheets for yesterday’s game at Vicarage came out, Phillips was, once again, named on the bench as he continues to nurse a return from his long-term injury.

In truth, Marsch could probably afford to keep him away from the starting XI and ease him in because the Whites are unbeaten for a month now.

Added with that, they have a cushion between themselves and the bottom three so there isn’t any need to panic.

But ex-Leeds boss Warnock made this controversial claim about Phillips and Marsch not starting him yesterday.

“Hey, he has only been here two minutes, so he may not fancy him,” said Warnock.

“It’s not like us where we think Phillips is one of the best in the country. He might watch him in training and think ‘this kid is better than him. I will play this lad’.”

Warnock’s comments won’t go down well with the Leeds fans because Marsch clearly has no issue with Phillips.

There has been a lot of talk about the Englishman’s future in Yorkshire, but even with Marcelo Bielsa out of the door, it still wouldn’t be a surprise if he extends his stay at the club.

Leeds should now see off survival after an injury-hit campaign that has derailed their season time and time again.

Not many would have expected it to end with Marcelo Bielsa being out of the door, but regardless of the club having to sack him this season, he has played a huge part in why Leeds are sitting in England’s top-flight.
