Chris Sutton has suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live (05/10/20 at 7:55 pm) that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t trust Liverpool’s stand-in goalkeeper Adrian.
The Reds didn’t bring in another shot-stopper on deadline-day despite rumours circulating yesterday, but the EFL window is still open if any out-of-the-box decisions are to be made.
The Independent did link Liverpool’s name with a possible move for Tottenham’s third-choice keeper Paulo Gazzaniga, but nothing materialised.
Following Liverpool’s humiliation at the hands of Aston Villa over the weekend, Sutton made it clear that Adrian is ‘an accident waiting to happen’ and the champions may have to ‘adapt’ with him starting games.
“I suppose the interesting one now, running out of time with the deadline, is the goalkeeping situation,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Alisson is out for another month, isn’t he?! Does he trust Adrian? He seems to be an accident waiting to happen.
“It will be interesting to see if whether Liverpool adapt a little bit with Adrian in goal. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool get another goalkeeper in and how Klopp views it. Whether he wants to be absolutely ruthless, which he feels he may have to in this situation.”
It was a day to forget for Liverpool as Villa put seven goals past them on what of the most remarkable days in English football, which also saw Manchester United concede six goals.
With Alisson facing a number of weeks on the sidelines, it does worry the Liverpool supporters because they don’t have that trust or comfort of their number one standing in between the sticks.
Whilst Liverpool’s defeat at Villa Park was a collective catastrophe, Adrian did start it all off by gift-wrapping Ollie Watkins with a goal.
