Tottenham fans were pretty grateful for Gylfi Sigurdsson’s performance and contribution during Everton’s 1-0 win against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

It was a crucial result for Spurs because it means that they remain at the top of the Premier League table after their former player prevented third-placed Chelsea from going top.

Sigurdsson, who moved to Everton from Swansea for £45 million in 2017 [BBC Sport], netted from the penalty spot in what was the only goal of the game as Carlo Ancelotti’s men moved into seventh place.

It’s fair to say that Sigurdsson produced his best football in the Premier League at Swansea and Everton, but that doesn’t mean that the Tottenham supporters haven’t forgotten about what he brought to the table during his good days in North London.

But whilst the Spurs faithful were pleased that the set-piece specialist delivered the goods for them last night, they are still aware that they have to do their own job later on this afternoon.

Three points against Crystal Palace and then Spurs will go into the midweek fixtures sitting top of the pile once again.

But if they drop points then the champions of England would leapfrog them at the top with just a point needed to do so against Fulham.
