Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has hailed Celtic’s Callum McGregor.

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has told Betsafe that he thinks Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor is arguably the most improved player in Scottish football over the last year.
Scotland face a huge evening tonight, as they take on Slovakia at Hampden Park, with Gordon Strachan’s men all too aware that only a win will do as they attempt to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
The hope for Scotland is that they can mirror the former Spain sides; when Barcelona were dominant, that translated into Spanish success, and Scotland will hope Celtic’s success can reap similar rewards.

Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths are just a handful of Celtic players who have featured prominently under Strachan of late, and another Bhoys ace now has a chance to follow suit.
Midfielder Callum McGregor has been called into the squad by Strachan, and he will be looking to earn his first senior cap for Scotland having thrived for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers.
The 24-year-old hit seven goals in 44 games for Celtic last season, but has stepped up again this term, notching five goals in his first 14 games this term, with his Scotland call-up more than deserved.
Now, former Rangers captain and ex-Scotland international Barry Ferguson has told Betsafe that he thinks McGregor is up with Celtic team-mate Stuart Armstrong as the most improved player in Scottish football.

Ferguson feels that McGregor always ‘looks the part’ for Celtic whenever called upon, and he would have no issue with Strachan throwing him straight in for his first cap having played in the Champions League with Celtic.
“Certainly, over the past year Callum McGregor is up there with Armstrong as the most improved in Scottish football,” said Ferguson. “Whenever he is called upon from Celtic, he looks the part, he scores goals for me which is massive from a midfielder so I wouldn’t have any qualms with Gordon Strachan throwing him in.”
“He has got a chance to prove that he can play at the highest level as he has done that with Celtic in the Champions League,” he added.
