Glenn Hoddle has praised Andy Robertson for how ‘dangerous’ and ’sharp’ he looked during Liverpool’s 7-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield.

The Liverpool left-back started off the riot when he slipped a brilliantly weighted through ball for Cody Gakpo after several Manchester United players were caught out of position.

Whilst Liverpool’s forward line – Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah – got most of the love for their six goals, added with Roberto Firmino’s strike from the bench, the backline also played their part.

This was their fifth Premier League clean sheet on the bounce, which is some going for a team that has had some seriously dark days this season.

Robertson has played a big part in that, but he has also been a key figure behind the club’s success in recent years, hence why the criticism was low-key.

But, from the off, Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle noticed that Robertson had an extra spring in his step, as he told Premier League Productions (06/03/23 at 5:05 pm).

“The one thing that Robertson gave was real good width at times for Liverpool,” said Hoddle. “Liverpool were up for this game. They always are.

“But he was very sharp with everything he did. He wanted the ball – Every time he got the ball, he looked dangerous. He was positive in what he did.

“He’s saying there (for Liverpool’s opening goal) ‘son, you are miles out of position’.”

LIVERPOOL’S BACKLINE STARTING TO MOTOR

It will be interesting to see what Liverpool make of this game and scoreline, in regard to the work that needs to be done in the summer.

The biggest issue for the Reds has been their midfield and backline. Added to what they have been doing without the ball this season.

They haven’t been their old selves, hence why there has been talk of a refresh.

But that’s five clean sheets on the bounce and now a real possibility that Champions League football can be secured again for next season.
