Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has told Football.London that Harry Kane is likely to play against West Ham United this weekend.

Mourinho has explained why Kane did not play for Tottenham in their Europa League game against Wolfsberger on Thursday evening.

Spurs got the better of Wolfsberger 4-1 away from home in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 tie.

Kane did not feature in the game, and while explaining why the striker did not play, the Portuguese boss added that the England international will be ready for the London derby against West Ham.

Tottenham will take on West Ham away from home at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

Mourinho told Football.London when asked if Kane will be available for Sunday: “I believe so, but experienced guy that had injuries in the past, he knows his body better than anyone, he knows I want him to play every minute of every game.

“I wanted to come here with the best team and the players. But he made the decision based on his feeling that to play this game could be a risk based on the accumulation of injuries and minutes he has. We and the sports science staff agreed. I believe Sunday he will be OK and ready.”

Big boost for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham fans would have been worried after Kane missed the match on Thursday evening, but Mourinho’s explanation will ease their concerns.

West Ham are in the running for the Champions League places in the Premier League table this season, and Kane playing against them will enhance Spurs’ chances of winning the London derby on Sunday.

According to WhoScored, Kane has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 21 Premier League matches for Spurs so far this season.
