Chris Sutton has told BBC Radio Five Live that Pierre Emerick Aubameyang needs to leave Arsenal if he has any ambition.

Aubameyang has stalled over whether to sign a new contract with Arsenal, despite Mikel Arteta’s attempts to get him to commit to a new deal.

Arsenal have, at least, got European football on offer next season – which may help convince the rapid attacker to stick around.

But Sutton doesn’t understand why Aubameyang is taking so long to decide whether to stay at the Emirates Stadium, and he says that if he has ambition he will opt against penning a new contract.

“I don’t get why can’t he just say – yes or no. What is there to sort out? You can say contract terms, but I’m sure Arsenal would have offered him a fortune,” Sutton said.

“If he had any ambition he’d want to go elsewhere. Arteta himself before the game said that it would be a disappointing season even if they won the FA Cup. He knows how much work he has to do.”

Aubameyang scored twice to win Arsenal the FA Cup last weekend, in a match which really highlighted his importance to Arteta’s side.

The Gabonese forward is clearly Arsenal’s main scoring threat, and without him the Gunners would be a much weaker team.

Keeping Aubameyang will surely be the most important move Arsenal could make this summer, but there are no guarantees that he will stay.

And Arsenal fans now face a nervy wait, as Aubameyang makes his mind up over his future.
