Sergio Reguilon has revealed that Joe Hart ‘almost killed’ him in a training session at Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham signed the veteran goalkeeper on a Bosman during the summer of 2020 under Jose Mourinho.
However, the 34-year-old was sold to Celtic by former Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo last year.
He never made a Premier League appearance for the Lilywhites, but Hart was a popular behind-the-scenes character at Hotspur Way for his leadership.
And the Spain international has revealed to 443 on Instagram how he once fell foul of the English goalkeeper.
Watching a clip of a Panenka-style penalty for the channel, Reguilon burst out laughing.
He said: “Do you know which goalkeeper used to hate this? Joe Hart. I did this [a Panenka] in a training session once and he almost killed me!”
Given Hart’s character, it’s safe to assume that the former Manchester City keeper was less interested in being humiliated and more concerned with the audacity from Reguilon.
‘Train how you play’ is a common maxim in football and anything that the Tottenham left-back wouldn’t do during a game probably doesn’t belong in a training session, going by Hart’s logic.
And honestly, he’s probably right.
Hart wasn’t a brilliant goalkeeper in North London and his sale for £1 million [Daily Mail] illustrates that, but he was a leader and someone unafraid to ruffle feathers, as Regilon’s anecdote highlights.
