Thierry Henry has praised Harry Kane for the role he played in Tottenham Hotspur’s stunning 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Arsenal legend stated ‘a lot of credit’ has to go to Kane for how he brought his teammates into play, won free-kicks and kept hold of the ball in such a hostile environment, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/11/22 at 10:15 pm).
Tottenham were handed a pretty fiery welcome before kick-off, including Marseille fans letting off fireworks outside of their hotel room the night before the game.
That hostile nature seemed to have affected the team in the first half because they couldn’t even string a few passes together, before going a goal behind just before the break.
But that’s when Tottenham stuck their chest out, scored two goals in the second half, won their group and reached the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Former Premier League striker Thierry Henry was quick to point out the role Kane played yesterday, especially with Son Heung-min going off injured in the first half and the north London club also being without Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.
“I have to give a lot of credit to Harry Kane,” said Henry. “The amount of time he allowed his team to come (forward). The amount of free-kicks he won. The amount of times he keeps the ball well.
“He plays through someone of Kulusevski, who is not there. Richarlison is not there. And what a goal for Hojbjerg.”
KANE IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD
Once again, Kane is proving why he is one of the best players in the world because that was a masterclass from the England captain.
There was frustration in the first half from the 29-year-old because Spurs were camped outside of their own half and he just couldn’t get hold of the ball.
It was like a training session of attack vs defence and those roles couldn’t be changed, well, they were after the break.
Tottenham pushed further forward, pressed higher up the pitch, which brought Kane into play, more bodies around him, and more runners pushing forward and, as a result, he made the ball talk, including supplying Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with the assist for the winning goal on the night.
