Ian Wright has told the Wrighty’s House podcast that he is a big fan of Aleksandr Golovin, who turned down West Ham United, according to recent reports.
The Athletic say that Golovin rejected the chance to move to West Ham recently, in favour of staying with Monaco.
And the news of the playmaker’s decision to snub them may cause some disappointment at the London Stadium this summer, if Wright’s prediction comes true.
The former Arsenal striker was asked which players he thinks could stand out at Euro 2020, and Golovin was his pick.
He said: “I like Golovin of Russia. He was really good in the World Cup, really good.
“He’s one of those sneaky players. You know like Arshavin came out of nowhere. Where in that Euro’s, it was like ‘Oh my God’ he is going to sign for anyone he wants to.
“I’m not saying Golovin will do that, but it’s the way he’s just slipped in. He just has everything from what I’ve seen as a midfielder.”
A big talent
Golovin has previously shown just how talented he is at international tournaments.
He is Russia’s most creative option by a distance, and his country will be leaning on the £26 million Monaco man (EuroSport) to show his best again this time around.
If he had arrived at West Ham then David Moyes’ side may not have been able to sign Jesse Lingard, though.
As talented as Golovin is, it is difficult to imagine that he would have had the same impact at West Ham as Lingard had.
Lingard massively caught the eye during his time at the London Stadium, with Moyes now looking to seal a deal to bring him in on a permanent transfer (The Sun).
