According to the Spanish outlet, Sport, Arsenal are interested in a move for Antoine Griezmann.

This would certainly be an interesting signing. Griezmann would provide a lot of depth in key positions for Arsenal, and given his track record in La Liga, there’s reason to believe he’d genuinely be one of the Gunners’ best players – at least on a technical level.

One man who may share that opinion is Thomas Partey.

The Ghanaian played alongside Griezmann at Atletico Madrid, and it sounds as though he absolutely loved having the Frenchman as a teammate.

Indeed, Partey has been on the record praising the attacker on numerous occasions.

What’s been said?

Partey has only ever had good things to say about Griezmann.

“We are very happy that Griezmann is still with us,” said Partey after Griezmann snubbed an exit from Atletico Madrid in 2018.

“He is the best player we have and we are all looking forward to playing with him again.”

The midfielder also praised Griezmann ahead of a game against Barcelona that year.

“[Griezmann]’s always working hard, sometimes he just lacked luck,” Partey said. “He’s at his natural level, it’s normal that in some games he doesn’t score.”

“He works hard and deserves the good things that happen to him,” he added.

Not the right profile

While Griezmann may have a fan at Arsenal in the shape of Thomas Partey, it’s hard to imagine Mikel Arteta and Edu being huge on the idea of signing the attacker.

At the age of 31, Griezmann doesn’t fit the profile of player Arsenal have been signing over the past two years, and while he could be a game-changer this season, the Gunners are looking to build long-term rather than going for a player like this.

As exciting of a rumour as this is, it’s tough to see this transfer actually going ahead – as much as Partey would probably like to be reunited with his former teammate.
