Jonathan Woodgate has lauded Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min, claiming he could play for any football club on the planet.
The South Korea international was one of the few Spurs players to emerge from Wednesday’s horror show against Southampton with any credit.
Tottenham lost 3-2 to a Saints side who managed 23 attempts at Hugo Lloris’s goal – and considering that the Lilywhites were at home, well it’s a damning stat.
Son fired the North Londoners 2-1 ahead in the final quarter, and also played a role in the own goal from Jan Bednarek during the first half.
Here’s what Woodgate – a former Tottenham defender – told BBC Radio 5 Live about Son.
He said: “Son Heung-Min could play in any team in the world, he is that good. His acceleration to go past players is so hard to defend against.”
The fact that Tottenham signed Son for only £22 million is an absolute joke.
The former Bayer Leverkusen forward could easily be considered Mauricio Pochettino’s finest signing as Spurs manager.
For a long time that was unanimously Dele Alli, who signed from MK Dons for next to nothing.
But as far as longevity goes, Son is Pochettino’s finest addition in North London and Woodgate is right – any club in world football would certainly take him.
Nine goals in 18 Premier League appearances this season illustrates his importance to Antonio Conte’s outfit.
