Ex-Rangers boss Alex McLeish has hailed Ibrox forward Kenny Miller.

Former Rangers manager Alex McLeish has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he thinks Kenny Miller still has a lot to offer the Gers amid recent issues with manager Pedro Caixinha.

Rangers beat St Johnstone 3-0 at McDiarmid Park on Friday night, with Carlos Pena bagging two goals in a strong win – but Kenny Miller’s situation remains a top of conversation.

Miller missed the game due to injury, with manager Pedro Caixinha keeping him out of the side as a precaution, continuing a strange couple of weeks for the veteran forward.

After the 2-0 home defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic, Miller appeared to fall out with manager Caixinha, as he was left out of the squad to face Hamilton Academical before the international break, as reported by the Daily Record.

Some believed that Miller’s third spell at Ibrox could be coming to an end, but the 37-year-old played and scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Morton over the international break to put himself back in contention.

It remains to be seen just what Miller’s role is once he returns from injury, but former Rangers boss Alex McLeish has offered his take on the situation, having previously managed Miller with Scotland.

McLeish has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he is glad to see Miller back in contention, especially having hit 14 goals for Rangers last season.

McLeish feels that Miller is ‘very useful’ in the dressing room, and he thinks that Miller can still be a great asset for Rangers if he and Caixinha can have a good relationship, effectively telling the Gers boss just how important Miller can still be.

“You don’t know what’s happened there on the inside until you get the full facts,” said McLeish. “But it seems like Kenny is back on board in terms of being welcome back to first team status.”

“Whether he takes his place again or whether he is a super sub – and whether he wants to be a super sub or not – he is still very useful in that dressing room, especially if Pedro and him can have a good relationship,” he added.
