Tottenham Hotpsur boss Jose Mourinho has told Football London that Jan Vertonghen is ‘ready to play’ this evening, if he is required.
Spurs are set to take on Manchester United tonight, as they return to Premier League action.
It is not yet clear whether Vertonghen will be involved in the game, as his contract at Tottenham is currently due to expire at the end of the month.
But Mourinho insists that the Belgian will perform well for his side if he is selected.
“Jan is a fantastic guy, fantastic professional. His love for the club, his respect for the club, is never in doubt. Of course he’s committed with us, of course he’s ready to play tomorrow,” the Portuguese boss said.
“We and him want him to be with us until at least the end of the season and hopefully Jan and his people and my club can agree that. But speaking now until the end of his contract, in the end of June, he’s here to help and of course we totally trust him.”
Vertonghen’s chances of starting for Tottenham tonight appear slim, as he has slipped down the pecking order since Mourinho came in.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga have all been picked ahead of Vertonghen at centre-back this term.
Tanganga’s recent injury means that Vertonghen is likely to be selected on the bench, but is seems highly doubtful that he will start.
If Tottenham are able to beat United later they will move to within four points of the top four.
