Roy Keane has hit out at Harry Kane and claimed ‘he is part of the problem’ at Tottenham, as he told ITV Sport.

The legendary midfielder mocked Tottenham’s ‘Spursy’ performance as they got knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side, Middlesbrough, on Tuesday night.

Even though Antonio Conte played a strong XI, it still wasn’t enough for them to progress, as they bowed out of another competition.

The biggest problem for the north London club is that they were second-best during normal time and in extra time when they conceded against Chris Wilder’s side.

Nonetheless, this is what Keane made of the matter, as he didn’t pull any punches when arguing about Kane with former Arsenal man, Wright.

“Spursy, how many times do we have to say it?” asked Keane. “Whatever is in that club’s DNA, the players, there is a weakness there and it was totally pathetic if I am honest.

“But I wasn’t surprised. Going up to Middlesbrough, midweek, it was probably a little bit cold.

On Kane: “He is part of the problem. He is on the pitch and needs to do more.”

Ian Wright responded: “He’s doing alright, Harry Kane. He has done well recently.”

Keane then interrupted: “What about against Boro?” to which Wright responded, “It’s not all down to Harry Kane, though – create the chances for him and he will score.”

The former midfielder added: “It’s not (all down to him), but if he is your main striker and your top guy. He still has to do more and lead them. He doesn’t lead them that well.”

In recent weeks, Kane has showcased a number of strong performances and he has improved upon what he was producing under Nuno Espirito Santo.

But, in truth, the player fans have been used to over the years has been a shadow of himself this term.

All of that well-documented drama around Manchester City in the summer has played its part, no doubt and even more.

The problem for Kane is that he has allowed all of that to seep its way through his performances, or lack of them, and onto the pitch.

Come the summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is knocking on Daniel Levy’s door again because he is closer to that exit door than he is to that sheet of paper to extend his contract.
