Tottenham Hotspur have a decision to make in goal this summer, as it may soon be time to start thinking about the future.
Hugo Lloris is now 34, and has just over a year left to run on his contract, whilst Joe Hart isn’t first-choice material and Paulo Gazzaniga is unwanted under Jose Mourinho.
One recent rumour emerged over a potential goalkeeper signing, with L’Equipe claiming that Spurs fancy signing Lille star Mike Maignan.
Two members of Mourinho’s coaching staff – Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos – know Maignan well having worked him at Lille before heading to Spurs.
The 25-year-old is one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe, and could be Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper for years to come if they can pull off a deal.
Maignan is currently on international duty with France, meaning he is spending time around Lloris – the man he could replace in North London.

On Tuesday night, Lloris spoke to the media ahead of France’s game with Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight, and he heaped praise on Maignan despite the rumours that he could take his place at Spurs.
“Mike is levelling up season after season,” said Lloris, as quoted by Le10 Sport. “He took even more importance in the performances of Lille. He did win some important points at times. He is one of the goalkeepers of tomorrow. Mike is very ambitious – he wants to be challenged at a high level,” he added.
Lloris is backing Maignan for a huge future then, and he may well be looking at his successor not just with France, but also with Tottenham.
