Arsenal fans are hoping at least one of their players returns with an international trophy in hand this summer.

Several players from Mikel Arteta’s stable are in action at Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

Both tournaments are now in the most crucial of stages because the knockout games are underway.

Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard has already bowed out after his Belgium side were beaten 1-0 by France on Monday.

The French team, who are one of the favourites for Euro 2024, contained one William Saliba.

No Upcoming Fixtures

When in Arsenal colours, no one has doubted the quality and performances of the ice-cool centre-back, but it has proven to be a different story for France.

Saliba is now proving those critics wrong because he has been one of his side’s best players this summer and Didier Deschamps might have to eat some humble pie after his ‘unorthodox’ approach.

That was proven when Saliba came up against Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku and won the battle over the course of the 90 minutes.

Ally McCoist stated during the game that he ‘didn’t want to tempt fate’, but the Arsenal man was ‘handling Lukaku pretty well’, as he told ITV Sport.

Chelsea’s £98 million signing has had a number of troublesome years, and after spending the season on loan at Roma, he is now looking for a new home because he doesn’t have a future at Stamford Bridge.

“I don’t want to tempt fate for William Saliba, but at this moment in time, he seems to be handling Lukaku pretty well,” said McCoist.

“Obviously, the physical side of it is a massive thing. It’s a big thing. But he is handling it.”

William Saliba’s form for France

At the age of 23, Saliba is one of the best around and he is going from strength to strength as a footballer.

It wasn’t so long ago that many were questioning why Arteta wasn’t giving him game time, but that patience from the Arsenal boss is now proving to be fruitful.

Saliba has taken his form for Arsenal onto the international stage and now his French team will meet Portugal in the quarter-finals.

It’s the small matter of having to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo after his team secured a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Slovenia.
