Leon Osman thinks ‘Harry Kane’s aura’ at Tottenham Hotspur has been replaced by James Maddison.

Following James Maddison’s summer transfer from relegated Leicester City, the 26-year-old has been a breath of fresh air for the London club, who are now led by the very popular, Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham needed picking up after their morale-sapped season under Antonio Conte.

In truth, things didn’t start as fans would have liked because Harry Kane headed for the exit door days before the new Premier League season started.

And whilst Spurs won’t ever be able to replace his goals, ex-Everton man Leon Osman thinks his presence out on the pitch has now been taken over by his England teammate, as he told Premier League Productions (09/10/23 at 4:25 pm).

Eight Premier League games in and Ange Postecoglou’s side are sitting top of the tree, with James Maddison playing a huge part in their recent rise.

James Maddison replacing Harry Kane

“Great from Maddison (on assist v Luton), who has probably been the standout player for Spurs this season,” said Osman.

“But, for a big guy, to shuffle your feet in this way. And it’s a little hop he has as well as he is adjusting his body to go 180 to where he is trying to get the ball. That’s not easy.

“Yes, he’s not going to replace Harry Kane’s goals. But he can replace the aura that Harry Kane had about the player. And, at the moment, he is doing it brilliantly.”

James Maddison playing with freedom

Sometimes, with a player like Maddison, you just have to let them loose and allow them to talk in the final third without much defensive responsibility.

That seems to be happening under Postecoglou because he is allowing his summer capture to sing and dance however he likes.

And, so far, it proving to work wonders for a Spurs team that is now starting to dream big.
