Alan Smith has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:47pm, August 20, 2022) that he has been told that Arsenal attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard does not take a day off from training at London Colney.
The former Arsenal star made the comments while analysing why manager Mikel Arteta has made Odegaard the club captain.
The Norway international attacking midfielder scored two goals for Arsenal in their 3-0 win against Bournemouth away from home at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League this past weekend.
Alan Smith on Arsenal star Martin Odegaard
Smith said about Odegaard on Sky Sports Premier League (7:47pm, August 20, 2022): “I think he is a fairly quiet lad around the club.
“The way he leads by example, the way he wants the ball when things maybe are not going so well…
“He is one of these boys who never wants to take a day off. He is given a day off, he comes in, he works on something, sometimes the coaches have to remind him to smile because he is desperate to do well.”

Leading by example
In our opinion, Martin Odegaard has proven to be a very good signing for Arsenal and has deservedly been made the club captain.
The youngster is the captain of Norway as well.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is a leader on the pitch.
Yes, Odegaard is the not the most vocal of players when he is on the pitch, but he leads by actions – with his work-rate and with the decisions he makes both on the ball and off it.
The youngster could not really make it at Real Madrid, arguably the biggest club in the world, and that will have hurt.
However, Odegaard is doing well for Arsenal, who are a massive club and a global brand.
