‘He is a target to every fan’: Frank Leboeuf tells West Ham not to sign ‘new Declan Rice’

Frank Leboeuf has told David Moyes’ West Ham United that they simply can’t buy Manchester United centre-back, Harry Maguire.

The former World Cup winner says it’s now ‘impossible’ for Harry Maguire to play as a centre-back because of his recent decline, as he suggested that he is used as a number six.

As a result, the former Chelsea player thinks the 30-year-old could be the ‘new Declan Rice’, but he still wouldn’t buy the player if he was a chairman with some money, as he told ESPN.

That’s the situation David Sullivan finds himself in at West Ham United after receiving a club-record transfer for Rice.

From centre-backs to midfield players, this is the chance for West Ham to enhance and improve their squad.

But Leboeuf thinks Maguire isn’t the guy because he is a ’target to every media and every fan’.

“I don’t like to hammer talking about Maguire and West Ham,” said Leboeuf. “Everybody loves the player. We can’t consider him as a done guy.

“I will put myself in a seat of a chairman. We have a little bit of money. I wouldn’t buy Harry Maguire. The confidence is so low.

“He is a target to every media and every fan. It has to be very hard for him to recover in England. If he doesn’t stay in England, who is going to buy him? Because of the salary. The transfer, so it’s complicated for him.

“Maybe he has to play in the middle of the park to cover his weakness as a defender. Maybe as a number six, he can help the team. It’s impossible for him to put him as a centre-back. Like the new Declan Rice.”

West Ham yet to sign anybody this summer

It’s nearly August and West Ham still haven’t used that Rice money to bring in new faces, which should be a worry to fans.

There were recent suggestions that they had a £20 million bid rejected by Manchester United for Maguire, with the England defender recently being stripped of the captain’s armband. 

West Ham better get a move on, or else, that Europa Conference League win in Prague is going to be replaced with very dark clouds.
