Tim Sherwood says Sam Allardyce is a ‘master’ of his words following Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday.
Before a ball was kicked, Sam Allardyce made sure all the talk was about him, and not his Leeds players, after he claimed that no other Premier League manager is above him – he even added that he could ‘challenge for the treble’ at the Etihad.
That certainly put the limelight on him, and in truth, it’s needed because his players’ morale was on the floor.
Well, 30 minutes into their game against the Premier League champions, then that confident talk would have been needed again at half-time.
Whilst the Whites still lost, it was, on paper, only 2-1 and a small little boost in their quest to survive, as Sherwood reacted to Allardyce’s comments after the game and how he spins his words despite his team getting mauled throughout the match, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (06/05/22 at 8:10 pm).
“He is the master of spin,” said Sherwood. “Listening to him, without watching the football match, you would think they were unlucky today.
“But realistically, it was a hammering. It was a 2-1 hammering – any team managed by this man will never ever give up.”
A BOOST IN DEFEAT?
Everyone expected Leeds to lose this game, especially given that Man City have now won ten games in a row and their opposition had conceded the most goals anyone has conceded in April in over half a century.
But to only lose 2-1, albeit they had very little possession, is a boost for the team and one they can take forward into their next game.
It’s another hard-hitting encounter they have to deal with – Champions League-chasing Newcastle United – but it’s in front of their own fans.
