Jamie Carragher has claimed that Mo Salah ‘hasn’t looked his best’ since returning to action for Liverpool from the Africa Cup of Nations, as he told CBS Sports (08/03/22 at 10:15 pm).
The Sky pundit was speaking after Liverpool’s 1-0 second-leg defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Whilst the Merseyside club progressed through to the next stage of the Champions League, it was still a frustrating evening at Anfield for the players.
No more so than for Salah, who hit the woodwork on a number of occasions against the Serie A champions.
It has been a number of weeks since Salah has returned from AFCON duty, where he suffered penalty shootout heartache.
Nonetheless, Carragher spoke about the ‘frustration’ Salah had to endure against Inter and how he has performed since returning from Egypt duty.
“Mo Salah probably hasn’t looked at his best since he has come back from the Africa Cup of Nations,” said Carragher.
“The sharpness’s not there, that’s why there is frustration that he hasn’t got on the scoresheet (v Inter).”

To the credit of Salah, as soon as Egypt were beaten by Senegal in the final of the AFCON’s, he was straight back on Merseyside and in the Liverpool squad to face Leicester City.
In the five Premier League games since returning, Salah has found the back of the net on three occasions, including scoring against Inter at the San Siro.
So, it’s not too bad for a player who is yet to get his engine going again, but that’s the standard Salah has set.
Even though he missed a number of Premier League games this season, Salah should still top the goalscoring charts at the end of the campaign, he’s currently on 19 goals, with his nearest challengers being his own teammates.
