Ian Wright has claimed that ‘people will question’ whether Tottenham striker Harry Kane is ‘world-class’, as he told ITV (08/09/21 at 7:20 pm).
The former Premier League hitman made it clear that he does think Kane is in that ‘world-class’ category, but that age-old comment of ‘you haven’t won’ anything will linger over the Tottenham man.
There were the well-documented rumours of Kane wanting to join Manchester City this summer and Pep Guardiola openly admitting to wanting to sign the England captain.
Despite all the drama that surrounded it, including Kane having to come out on Twitter and defend claims that he hasn’t boycotted training, he stayed put and Man City didn’t get their man.
Wright backed Kane to become England’s all-time leading goalscorer, but he is hoping all his goals don’t come with ‘regret’.
“There’s no doubt that he is world-class,” said Wright. “But at some stage, there is going to be the thinking where he wants to win things.
“Otherwise, he wouldn’t have wanted to go to Man City. It might not happen at Tottenham.
“I believe he is a world-class striker, but people will question that because he hasn’t won enough. You haven’t won enough for a player who has scored the number of goals he has scored.
“He will probably break the England goalscoring record. And that is the one thing he will regret if he doesn’t win anything.”

Tottenham haven’t helped themselves by declining after their Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in 2019.
That was a great chance for Daniel Levy to back Mauricio Pochettino, but leading up to that final, and thereafter, there wasn’t enough work done in the transfer market.
But under the stewardship of Nuno Espirito Santo, Spurs, who have had a 100% start to the new campaign, will be hoping to sing and dance to the tune Pochettino used to play all them years ago.
If they can reach those heights then maybe, just maybe, this time they can get over that dotted line and win a trophy.
