‘He has to’: Hoddle has advice for Arteta about Arsenal player he refuses to play

Glenn Hoddle has suggested in The London Evening Standard that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should recall Mesut Ozil back into the squad.

Ozil is not part of Arsenal’s Premier League squad at the moment, but the former Real Madrid attacking midfielder will be eligible to be part of the team from January.

The 32-year-old has not played a competitive match for Arsenal since March 2020 and is out of contract at the North London club at the end of the season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea midfielder Hoddle believes that it would make sense for Arteta to bring Ozil back into his Arsenal squad next month.

Hoddle told The London Evening Standard when asked if Arteta should bring back Ozil: “He has to do what is right for himself and the club.

“If Ozil is fit, then I do think he should think about it. He might have a player there who is desperate to show Arsenal and fans and desperate to show his manager that he has made a big mistake.

“If they are in a relegation dogfight, he is not the style of player you would think would get them out of trouble. But I do not think they have got that type of player really, so they will have to football their way out of their problems. So, of course, the quality of Ozil could help.”

Bringing back Mesut Ozil

Ozil is one of the most creative midfielders in Europe, and while it is very likely that he will not be at Arsenal next season, for the final months of the 2020-21 campaign, Arteta should use him.

After all, the Gunners are struggling to create chances and score goals at the moment, and even having the option to bring on Ozil as a substitute will be a boost to Arteta.
