Liverpool fans on Twitter are reacting to the possibility of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being given a number nine role next season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been impressing the Reds’ coaching staff in training during their pre-season trip to Austria.

According to The Echo, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could deploy him as a number 10 or in a wide role.

But Klopp himself has revealed that he could potentially start playing the former Arsenal winger as a centre-forward after experimenting with him there in a friendly earlier this week.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has played in a number of different roles during his career, but a number nine represents something new.

But suffice to say that some Liverpool fans aren’t sold on the idea. Here’s how they’re reacting on Twitter:

This is another gamble by Klopp.

Last summer, the Anfield club failed to sign a replacement for Dejan Lovren and look what happened, they lost their three best central defenders for most of the campaign.

Liverpool’s Divock Origi is linked with a move away this summer and if Klopp sells him, he needs replacing.

The German manager can’t just promote a central midfielder and hope that it works out. It’s taking shortcuts like that which made the club endure a dismal defence of their Premier League title last term and Klopp would be wise to learn from his mistakes.
