Clinton Morrison says he can’t see Eddie Nketiah leaving Arsenal in the summer ahead of possible big changes from Mikel Arteta.

Eddie Nketiah, 23, has played a backup role to Gabriel Jesus and was trusted with a starting spot when the Brazil star returned from the 2022 Qatar World Cup injured.

But if Arsenal dip into the transfer market and secure another out-and-out number nine in the summer, then Morrison can see Nketiah being ‘third-choice’, as he told Sky Sports News (20/05/23 at 12:15 pm).

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Arsenal added another striker to their squad next season, especially given that they will be returning to the Champions League, it’s going to be needed.

From Nketiah’s 29 Premier League games, he has scored only four goals, including that late winner against Manchester United.

But the Hale-End star is showing that he perhaps doesn’t have the quality to elevate the club’s forward line to the next level, although, Morrison expects him to stay put.

“I don’t think you show all of them the door,” said Morrison. “I think Nketiah, he has signed a new deal and I don’t think he goes.

“It depends if they bring in a new striker, then Nketiah sits on the bench and becomes a third-choice striker, so he has a decision to make.”

NKETIAH SHOULD LEAVE ARSENAL

The signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have proved that if you bring in those winners, then you can go to the next level.

Yes, the Premier League title has slipped away, but the above players still elevated the team to a higher level.

That will be needed again when the summer transfer window re-opens, which means current stars, that are no longer good enough, having to head for the exit door and Nketiah is one of them.
