Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has hinted one of his in-demand attackers will stay at the club while talking to the media ahead of the Premier League clash against Brighton on Saturday.
The Toffees are on a massive high having won each of the six games they have played in all competitions. The signings of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure have raised morale, while Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form have turned them into a dangerous side.
Ancelotti is pleased with the way his side have started the season but, with the transfer window closing on Monday, faces some tough decisions.
One player who has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park is Moise Kean. The Italian was brought in for big money from Juventus last summer but has struggled to adapt to the English game.
Last month, Calciomercato claimed Kean wanted to return to Juventus. Multiple reports have backed that claim in the past few weeks but Ancelotti claimed his compatriot has a big future at Goodison Park.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “He has a future in Everton. The club made a big, big investment on him. This week he was not well so didn’t train. He will not be in the squad tomorrow for this reason.”
That is the right move for Everton. Kean, although he hasn’t quite shown it, has immense potential. The young Italian can become a quality player for the Toffees but needs a friendly arm around his shoulder to help him develop.
Italian-speaking Ancelotti’s appointment was a huge boost for Kean. The young striker will learn a lot from his experienced compatriot and staying at Everton may be the best thing for his development.
With Calvert-Lewin scoring regularly, Kean won’t have pressure on his shoulders to score every time he plays. That should give him the freedom to express himself and, if he can find his feet quickly, he should turn out to be a fine player for Everton.
