Nottingham Forest Steve Cooper has showered Aston Villa forward Keinan Davis with praise after signing the 23-year-old on loan on Saturday.
The Championship club confirmed the loan deal on their official website. Davis will play for Forest for the remainder of the season after failing to leave Villa in the summer transfer window.
The arrival of Danny Ings looked to have spelt the end for Davis at Villa. However, despite Championship interest, the forward remained with the Premier League side, where the 23-year-old made just one appearance.
Indeed, it appears that Davis permanent departure from Villa is a matter of ‘when’, and Forest could be a great chance for the striker to win more suitors in the summer. Especially with Cooper delighted with the signed.
The Forest manager said: “We are delighted that Keinan has chosen to join us as he had offers elsewhere but has seen us as the right option for his development at this stage of his career.
Cooper added about Davis: “I have tracked him over a number of seasons and think it’s a good move for all parties. I’m really happy that Keinan is joining us and am really looking forward to working with him.”
Forest loan could be the making of Davis
Davis is something of an enigma. The striker has shown flashes of promise in both the Premier League and Championship, yet the 23-year-old has never really proven how good he can truly be.
And this is why this loan spell with Forest could be key to Davis taking the next step from an interesting prospect to a reliable striker at the top level. Under Cooper, the youngster could find the right coach who can play to his strengths, and his development will be one to take note of over the next five months.
