Speaking on the Goalmouth podcast, posted on Leeds United’s YouTube channel, Luke Ayling has claimed that Illan Meslier is going under the radar for how good he is.
The French goalie has been fantastic for United this season, and despite the fact the Whites don’t have the best defensive record in the division, Ayling believes he’s been brilliant.
The right-back says he’s not getting enough recognition for doing what he’s doing at the tender age of 20 years old.
“Do you know what, I think he goes under the radar, because obviously, we’ve conceded more goals than we want to, but he’s kept seven clean sheets and he’s been brilliant in games when he’s pulled out some amazing saves, and he’s only 20 and you don’t see goalies in the Premiership at 20, and he’s only come over last year,” Ayling said.
Ayling is right when he says that Meslier has been fantastic, but it’s hard to say he’s going under the radar.
The young stopper has received plenty of plaudits this season, with Ben Foster even naming him as one of the top five keepers in the Premier League this season, so it’s hard to really say he’s not getting the recognition he deserves.
Meslier is undoubtedly one of the most impressive young goalkeepers on the planet, and he deserves any praise that comes his way.
