Rob Green raved about Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on Sky Sports Premier League (7:43pm, March 8, 2021).

The former Leeds goalkeeper has been impressed by the performances of Meslier for the Whites so far this season.

The 21-year-old has established himself as the first-choice custodian for Leeds and has looked very good on the ball.

Green raved about Meslier, and he pointed out how Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa does not like it when the youngster takes the safer option and boots the ball away at times.

Green said about Meslier on Sky Sports Premier League (7:43pm, March 8, 2021): “His ability on the ball is up there with the best. His range of passing, you watch, the demands that have been put on him by Bielsa that is expected of him to play out from the back.

“When he goes for the safe option, something I did too many times during my period, just boot it, he goes bananas at him. He is expected to play out from the back. His touch is brilliant. It happens time and time again that his first touch is impeccable.”

Important player for Leeds United

Kiko Casilla is the second-choice goalkeeper at Leeds at the moment, and he is a former Real Madrid player.

This shows just how good Meslier is, and given that he is only 21 years of age, it is safe to say that he will get better in the coming years.

Of course, Meslier will make mistakes – all footballers do that – but playing for a massive club such as Leeds week in and week out at the age of 21 in front of goal is only going to make him a better and more mature footballer.
