The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper received criticism for his display against Norwich City on Wednesday night.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo spoke exclusively to the Express & Star, and defended his goalkeeper John Ruddy after his underwhelming performance against Norwich City on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old was beaten at his near post from a 35-yard Nelson Oliveira strike in stoppage time, and received criticism for the part he played in the goal.
Ruddy has performed well on the whole for the Black Country outfit this season, though, and has saved his side on numerous occasions, so the criticism seems to be a little harsh.
That is a notion that Nuno certainly agrees with.
The Portuguese spoke exclusively to the Express & Star, and insisted that the veteran stopper deserves credit for keeping his side in numerous games throughout the campaign thus far:
“John gives us so much this season, so many things, so many points,” he said. “You remember Reading? It’s ‘we’ as a team, nothing to do with individuals.”
Wolves currently sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table, nine points clear of second placed Cardiff City, and with just 13 league games remaining, they are still hot favourites to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
Next up for Nuno’s men is a trip to fifth placed Fulham tomorrow, and they will be under real pressure to return to Molineux with all three points, what with Cardiff continuing to close the gap on them.
