Alex Crook has suggested that it’s ‘more likely’ Jan Bednarek will end up at Aston Villa rather than West Ham United, before Thursday’s transfer deadline day, as he told talkSPORT.
There could be a merry-go-round here because a lot could also depend on Craig Dawson’s future – the West Ham defender has been linked away from the club, with Aston Villa and Wolves keen.
Now, if Dawson leaves the London Stadium, then David Moyes will want a replacement, equally, if Villa were to secure his signature, then they won’t need Bednarek.
Either way, under-fire Steven Gerrard needs another centre-back before deadline day because his big-money summer capture, Diego Carlos, is expected to be out for the long-term.
From West Ham’s perspective, if Bednarek does end up in B6, then that probably means Dawson won’t leave, so their fans would happily accept that scenario.
But it seems Dawson wants to leave for family reasons (Sky Sports), so even if Villa don’t sign him, then Wolves are also waiting in the wings.
Nonetheless, this was the lowdown from talkSPORT journalist and transfer expert Alex Crook.
“Jan Bednarek, there are a couple of clubs chasing him,” said Crook. “I told you last week that Aston Villa were looking to sign him to replace the injured Diego Carlos.
“West Ham also showing interest in the Polish international. That could be dependent on Craig Dawson leaving the London Stadium. He has interest from Wolves, among others.
“But I think West Ham want to keep, so at the moment I would say it’s more likely Bednarek ends up at Aston Villa.”
CRAIG DAWSON WOULD BE A BRILLIANT SIGNING FOR VILLA
West Ham fans won’t like to hear it because they know full well how important Dawson has been for them during these past few seasons.
But the 32-year-old would be a brilliant signing for Villa and a better option than Bednarek because he has proven performances at a higher level.
The fact that Hammers fans aren’t overly keen to see Dawson leave probably tells you everything about the player because Saints fans are too fussed to see their £60k-a-week defender (SalarySport) head for the exit door.
Either way, it is expected to be a hectic final push towards the deadline for the likes of Villa, West Ham and Wolves.
