Speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth has been discussing Leeds United’s managerial situation and Marcelo Gallardo.
The Argentine has been touted as a potential option for the Whites over the past few weeks, but, as has been reported elsewhere, Smyth is led to believe that the ex-River Plate boss doesn’t want to take the Leeds job right now.
However, the journalist did state that Gallardo could well be persuaded into coming to Elland Road in the summer.

One for the summer
Smyth shared what he knows about Gallardo.
“And Marcelo Gallardo as well, he’s not a man for now. He doesn’t want it now, but he could be persuaded in the summer. With all of their top targets being unavailable right now you can see why Michael Skubala has been given these two games and you can also see why fans are terrified because the consequences of this going wrong and the season going awry is obvious,” Smyth said.
Great option
Leeds fans should be very excited if Gallardo is indeed set to come in this summer.
Make no mistake about it, the former River Plate boss is the natural successor to Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch at Leeds.
While Marsch slightly strayed away from Bielsa’s style at Leeds, Gallardo could build on it. The ex-River Plate boss loves a high-energy, frantic style, and it would bring some real spark back to this Leeds team.
Leeds would be very wise to make the 47-year-old their top target come the summer.
